Philadelphia Union Top New England 1-0
Chester Pa- The Philadelphia Union won 1-0 over New England at PPL Park Saturday. The team may be out of the playoff picture, but they are making a run of their own, winning for the third time in the past four games. The Union’s front man, Jack McInerney, scored the game winner for the Union in the 73rd minute. The goal was a strong header into the upper left corner, as McInerney connected on a Keon Daniel free kick cross. With that goal, McInerney has scored a goal in the past three matches, after not scoring for nearly two months.
Is Jack Mack back? The mid-season McInerney looked like an all-star at times with some brilliant one touch finishes. I asked Jack McInerney about getting back into the groove and scoring a goal in the last three matches, and he said, “It feels good, it’s rising my confidence and it’s good for the team ’cause it’s been a tough season, but if we end it on a good note, everyone’s going to be happy.”
Keon Daniel played one of his best games in a Union jersey; he was present on both ends of field for much of the match. He took over the free kick duties tonight, as Freddy Adu was unavailable for the third straight game, and sent three perfect balls into the box. Only one was connected on by a Union player, and it was the game winner that he set up for McInerney. Manager John Hackworth said it was the best game he has seen Keon Daniel play for the Union. Hackworth also went on to say he believes Daniel has been the best player on the field for his country of Trinidad and Tobago in its recent World Cup Qualifiers.
The Union have just one more home game remaining, which is against I-95 rivals, the New York Red Bulls on October 27th. Philadelphia has two road stops before the season finale, with games against Houston on October 20th and October 24th at Kansas City.
