Philadelphia Union v. Montreal Impact

C’est Des Conneries!

Montreal, Quebec – Another headed goal (The 11th Allowed This Year) and an a Goal of the Week candidate gave the Montreal Impact a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Union at Stade Saputo.

With tonight’s loss the Union remain in 9th place in the Eastern Conference 12 points off a playoff spot.

The Colombian Connection of Carlos Vales and Lionard Pajoy nearly put the Union up one to nil in the 21st minute.  El Capitan Carlos Valdes went into beast mode and ran straight down the throat of the Impact for almost the entire length of the pitch until he found himself completely surrounded, threaded a pass to Pajoy who beat not ONE, but TWO defenders (and GK Donovan Ricketts), but failed to finish hitting the woodwork.

The 44th minute saw the U give up a demoralizing 11th headed goal of the season (MOST in the MLS) when former Union player Justin Mapp played a short corner to Patrice Bernier who whipped a cross to Andrew Wenger who confidantly placed his header past Zac MacMath.

In the 48th minute a glimmer of hope was quickly faded to black when Lionard Pajoy put his chance well over the bar after finding himself alone in the box.

In the 68th minute things went from MLS to MMA when Nelson Rivas channeled his inner Zinedine Zidane and rocked Antoine Hoppenot with a vicious headbutt to the face.  McInerney came in like a Knight in Mighty Morphin Philadelphia Union Jersey Armor and quickly found himself doing the same walk of shame as Rivas.

10 v. 10 saw the match really open up, but sadly it seemed to open up in favor of the Montreal Impact.  In the 78th minute Hassoun Camara’s cross found the foot of Felipe Martin, whose scissor-kick volley easily beat a big orange guy who doesn’t rhyme with anything Zac MacMath.
