As we come up to the MLS Allstar break, (Is it really a break?) it’s normally time to look back at the first half of the Philadelphia Union’s season. Looking back it’s been at times fun, exciting, happy, and made PPL Park the best place to be to on any given day. But as many of us know other times it was pure hell to be at. This first half brought hopefulness which later led to disappointment. But now after the critical changes have been made, the Union’s season has been full of optimism, hope, and that swagger of what the future may bring to this team.
As I wrote on the Section 133 Facebook a year ago, all we have to do is unite behind our team and make sure we push them to the finish:
We are not a bunch of different supporters groups who sit in different sections of a stadium. We are not separated by T-shirt color, what song we sing, and what player we like. We are not just Sons of Ben, Illegitimates, Corner Creeps, Tammiany Saints, Bearfighters, or Bridge Crews. We are supporters of the greatest team in the world, our Philadelphia Union. Our colors are blue and gold. Our song is tells us to DOOP. And we will show why our team and our support is the best not just the best in the league but in the world.
Only a couple months ago, we would’ve thought it was the end and that the Union we’re going through a hole in the ground that we wouldn’t have thought they would ever get out from. Now after a fantastic run through the US Open Cup, a couple thrilling wins, and now with players that are turning on a new gear, the sky’s the limit on what can be achieved. In the words of Noel Gallagher, “Some Might Say, We Will Find A Brighter Day” could actually be what’s on the horizon for the mighty boys in blue.
