Sheanon Williams: The MVP of 133

SW25 v. CR7

Sheanon Williams a.k.a. The Minister of Defense a.k.a. The Sheanomenon

We are proud to name Sheanon Williams the 1st Annual MVP of 133.  We would like to honor Sheanon not only for his play on the field, but for his hard work off the field raising money for charity.

On The Field

The former Harrisburg City Islander who was passed up by Real Salt Lake and New York Red Bulls has become an intergral part of the Philadelphia Union.  Sheanon signed with the U on August 31st 2010 and made his debut for the Philadelphia Union on September 11th 2010 against the Chicago Fire.  Though there were only 8 games left in the season it was more than enough time for #25 to make a huge impact.  Sheanon helped solidify a very erratic back four and give us an attacking threat up the right side with his overlapping runs and (Ooooh BOOM!) long throw-ins.  In 2011 he has played over 2,900 minutes and even scored his 1st MLS goal.  He was deserving of an MLS All-Star spot.. He didn’t get one.  He was deserving of a call up to the US National Team.. He didn’t get one. It is only a matter of time until Sheanon receives both.  Through the year he has endured a intercostal strain, a hamstring strain and a concussion.  None of those things has been able to slow down The Minister of Defense. In the span of 18th months he has gone from unwanted to irreplaceable.  The Sheanomenon gives his all every minute of every match and this team would not be where it is without his hard work.

“I feel really good,” Williams said. “I’m excited that we’re going to the playoffs. We’re not done yet. There is still work to be done. We should feel good about ourselves. I feel good personally as I said. Hard work has paid off.”  Sheanon Williams

Off The Field

Almost a year to the day of his signing with the club Sheanon pulled off his biggest fundraiser to date the Miles 4 MJ Charity Tailgate. With the help of Kildare’s Irish Pub and The Sons of Ben, The Corner Creeps, The IllegitimateS, The Tammany Saints, and The Bridge CrewMiles 4 MJ is part of the NF Endurance Team & Children’s Tumor Foundation that raise awareness and money for research in hopes of finding a cure for Neurofibromatosis (NF).  The cause became near and dear to Sheanon when he moved in with his host family in Philadelphia, but it is not his only cause.  He has also been an active part of the Sons of Ben’s Help Kick Hunger charity which raises money to purchase food for The Bernardine Center in Chester, PA. Sheanon was willing to risk life and limb and grow a mustache in support of the Sons of Ben ‘Stache Bash To Help Kick Hunger even though his girlfriend absolutely despised his growing facial hair.

For Your Commitment To Both Club & Community We Salute You Sheanon Williams!
