On Saturday June 26th Brian Friedel and Misty Lynn Kirpa made Section 133 history. They became the first couple to be engaged in our little (well defended) corner of PPL Park. On Saturday August 13th they put their names in the record book again!
Brian and Misty were married at a friends home in Mountaintop PA. The red, white, and blue decorations added a very USO feel for their 1940’s picnic themed wedding. The couple were joined in holy matrimony by Brian’s sister Sarah who got her credentials just for the occassion!
There were about 100 people present on blankets on the lawn. A trumpet played to announce the start of the ceremony. Brian, Misty, and the Kids sported Union scarves and Misty held the Union soccer ball as a bouquet for part of the ceremony. They promised respect, friendship, suport, affection, loyalty, and comfort to each other. Brian said, “now we are what we set out to be” in the journal he gave Misty as a wedding gift.
In the end a special day was made even MORE special. It will soon be two years since Brian’s Mother had passed. Brian’s sister Johanna said she was hoping their Mom would send a sign of her being there and her blessing. She also said, “Rain is good luck. Let it rain.” Just as the couple took their vows- thunder was heard once in the distance and a slow drizzle began to fall. The rain ended just as Brian stepped on the glass! Mazel Tov!
The day felt warm and full. For the first time in my life I felt loved in a way I only thought happened in the movies. It shows how real friends can be the closest of souls in love as well. – Misty Lynn Riedel
