Philadelphia Union v. Chicago Fire

Veljko Paunovic a.k.a. The Old Serb

The Philadelphia Union have extended their unbeaten streak on the road to 4 games.  We are currently sitting in Second Place in the Eastern Conference 2 points behind the Columbus Crew (Who Play Colorado Friday Night) with a game in hand.  So why does it suddenly feel like the END IS NEAR?

The only bright spot for the offense on the night was Veljko Paunovic’s goal in the 34th minute.  It may not have been a Goal of the Year Candidate, but considering the offensive woes this year anything in the back of the net looks pretty damn good about now.  In all seriousness it was a pretty sweet goal.  It could EASILY be Goal of the Week.  The thing was he saw an opening and he didn’t hesitate to put the ball on target!  Please teach this skill to the young strikers on the U!

You Are My SERBshine

You Are Our OLD SERB.. Our Only OLD SERB.. You Make Us Happy When Skies Are Grey.. You’ll Never Know Just How Much We Love You, Please Don’t Take Our Paunovic Away!

The Bearfight Brigage have affectionately nicknamed Veljko Paunovic The Old Serby Bastard… presumably because he likes it raw… but possibly because baby got his money.

(Dear Veljko Paunovic, Please don’t quit the team and sign with a division two Mexican team because we jokingly called you old on the internet) Follow him on Twitter at @VPaunovic… Show him love.

The only bright spot for the defense on the night was THE LEGEND a.k.a. Faryd Mondragon.  Faryd Mondragon was OUTSTANDING.  He twice denied Dominic Oduro from point blank range single-handedly making sure the Philadelphia Union left Toyota Park with 1 point.

The Philadelphia Union had a chance to steal three points in stoppage time when Sebastien Le Toux sent Danny Mwanga through the Chicago Fire defense.  Mwanga then proceeded to slow down when he entered the box.. not shoot the ball.. and turn the ball over when his weak centering pass was cleared away. Oh Danny Mwanga. (Shakes Head)

Philadelphia Union v. Chicago Fire – Highlights

P.S. Did anyone think the game coverage was AWFUL?  Specifically the camera angle used during gameplay and the needless closeups of Chicago Fire Coach Frank Klopas… most of them occuring during crucial periods of the match.  Hey Cameraman YSA!
